2022 Brisbane Exhibition (Ekka)
In 2021, a brief I received for one of my social media management subjects at University was to create a small social media campaign for an event or attraction that was impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An obvious option on a local scale was the annual Brisbane Exhibition (or Ekka) show, which was cancelled for two consecutive years in a row. In order to bring a bit of life back into the event, I put together a draft proposal for a social media campaign consisting of image based posts with simple messaging to remind visitors of some of the event's headlining attractions.
This proposal was approved by my supervisors and "#EKKA22" was born.
The campaign comes in two forms, one form is a simple slogan and graphic with the EKKA logo on a maroon background to signify Queensland colours (better for use in low bandwidth scenarios or on small screens), and the second form introduces blurred background imagery that relates to the text,  to enhance the overall visual appeal and effectiveness of the campaign's messaging.
The creative freedom and opportunity that comes with combining design and social media marketing reminds me of why I love being a designer.
